dressed in my sunday best

Just a lovely Sunday afternoon in my lovely Sunday afternoon dress.

...I got it at a vintage store in downtown San Diego for $7.

Ain't it perty?

oh the flowers...

On Thursday, we went to order the flowers for the BIG day...
...which is less than two weeks away. Wowee!

Let me tell you, it was a looooong morning there at the flower shop.
Luckily, my mom's florist friend is doing the flowers for our wedding and she was there to sort, gather, pick, and bunch the flowers together.
Then she ordered a million and one flowers for the wedding.
...it was a million and one dollars, too. Ouch. Sorry mom and dad.

Anyway, we got the inspiration for the flowers from a wedding that is our inspiration for basically my entire wedding. It was a wedding to die for...literally with all the money that went into it..so we are going to try and replicate it to the best of our ability with our budget. Here's what the flowers looked like:

For our wedding, we will have a crate filled with flowers and two to four small mason jars of flowers on each table. It will be just grand!

My mom's florist friend ordering the flowers in her winter parka--it was freezing in there!!

LOTS of flowers...

Here are some coffee bean berries, which will be in the boutonnieres.

These are "billy-bob" flowers and I love them oh so much! They add the pop of color that we want in the flowers and we are using these with a coffee bean berry for the mens' boutonnieres. Ow ow!!

The China Mum: these will be the main flower in my bouquet. They are giant and just beautiful!
They will be paired with some billy-bob flowers, some pink roses, and some of the flowers below.

These flowers will be sparsely throughout the flowers on the tables and in my bouquet because they are pretty pricey, but just lovely! Wouldn't you say? I just adore them!

Beautiful roses we will use with the perfect hint of pink in them.

inspiration

When I think of having a second helping of that warm, delicious apple pie I made this weekend
I think of this picture...

Can you even believe her?
I know. I hate her, too.

Luckily she doesnt look like this anymore...muahahahaha!!

Kate Bosworth successfully gained 15 pounds of muscle for the movie Blue Crush by surfing for four hours, lifting weights for an hour, and running under the water (yes, under the water with a giant rock to hold her down) or on the beach an hour everyday.
ALL OF THAT EVERYDAY!!

What the heck? Who does that in real life?
Nobody...

...so nobody should look like this in real life, right?

Well, now that I have rationalized and put this picture out of my mind for two seconds, I think I will have a second helping of pie thankyouverymuch.

Silhouettes for the vintage wall

We decided to do a vintage photo wall for the wedding
instead of just putting our photos in some frames on display for people to look at.
...not that theres anything wrong with that either.

While I don't have a picture of the actual wall yet-- because as soon as we put it together we had to take it apart to store it for the big day--I do have a piece of the wall for you.
the silhouettes.

I have seen a dozen or so of these at weddings with the same vintage them as ours and I just love it!
I didn't really get the point of them at first--just thought they were cute--but we made them anyway.
And when I say "we," I mean my mom, who btw is sewing her dress for the wedding because she can't find one she likes well enough. Crazy woman, right?

Anyway, they were pretty simple to make and I can't wait to display them on our vintage photo board with other things like engagement pictures, vintage mirrors, and wedding pictures.
I'm so excited about it!

oh wow!

I would really like these.
I mean, they're just pillows, right?
Wrong!!
They are adorablesupercuteandreallynewlywedappropriate pillows!!
I want them.
No, I NEED them.
Please?
Perhaps I will make them?
This week.
Keep a look out!! ;)

Whoops...

This week has been slightly crazy...and maybe i've been slightly lazy.
Ok it's been both. Deal.

But here are two blogs that I recently discovered and they've changed my life
...seriously.

the cake

So we recently ordered the cake and it should look similar to this:

It won't be very big because I didn't care too much about the cake except that I wanted pictures of Alex and me cutting one...of course... but we ordered a three tier cake that will be made with a white buttercream frosting.
The polka dots will be lovely and pearlized as the above picture.
We will have the ribbons on each tier like the above picture as well.
But in addition to some blush-colored roses on the top of the cake, we will have a layer of flowers between the first and second tier.
It will just be lovely and I can't wait to see it!!

Oh yes, the inside top layer will be a vanilla mousse with a raspberry cream cheese icing.
The second layer will be a tropical pineapple with mango cream icing, I believe (something like that).
And the biggest bottom layer will be a chocolate cake with a chocolate mouse cream icing.
Doesn't it sound delicious??

In addition to the cake, we have decided to do a mini desert bar.
Surrounding the cake, we will have tons of different cupcakes for people to eat--cupcakes are easier to eat, cuter, and have the ability to have a wider variety.
Hopefully they will be in my colors.

We will also have large glass jars all round the cupcakes filled with candy.
It is just going to be magical and I can't wait!

We have a lot to do still--the first thing we need to figure out is how to string the ping pong lights and lanterns in the yard.
Oh man...wish us luck!

Yoga

A couple of days ago, I went to a Relief Society Yoga evening and I loved it!!

It was so different from my usual running that I do every day and I really felt like I got a good, but different workout.

My legs--which are in shape from running 5 miles a day--were shaky, my hair was wet with sweat, and my shoulder muscles burned.

And I loved every second of it!

So after our little meeting, I looked up some yoga videos on Exercisetv.com which offers free full workout videos and found this one.

It is a Yoga Sculpt video and it is awesome!!

You get a great workout and I have been doing it every morning for my morning workout (you know, pre-wedding two-a-days right now haha)

You should try it because I guarantee you'll work up a sweat and gain flexibility!!

Swimsuit--or perhaps lingerie-- body here you come!! ;)

This is how it all went down:
1. We bought some izze bottles of sparkling sodas at Costco
2. We stripped the bottles of their logos
3. We had our labels printed and slapped 'em on the bottles (let me tell you, this was not an easy task. Seriously. They needed to be straight.)
4. Then we smoothed out the air bubbles underneath the label (again, not so easy)
5. Bought some ridiculously cute straws from Etsy
6. We still need to tie those straws onto the outside of the bottles. All in good time, all in good time.
7. Voila! You have some cute wedding favors with our faces on them! :)

harry potter (british accent)

Why yes, I AM going to the midnight showing of Harry Potter 7 tonight!
Funny you should even have to ask...
I mean who would miss this?

"Not I", muttered Maddi to herself as she conjured up a new spell in the back of the classroom... hehe

sleeping

Photobucket

Do you ever think about different things in life and lose your mind? I do it all the time and I don’t know if it’s normal or not (haha maybe I shouldn’t be sharing this with you?) Like sometimes—mostly when I’m driving—I think about how we, all of us here on this earth, probably look ridiculous to the man upstairs. We wake up, we eat breakfast, we go to school or work or run errands, we come home, we talk with our family or friends, we eat dinner, then we go to sleep and do it for the most part all over again. We have religion and politic,s and we go to the gym. We have these animals that were once wild that are now tame and we keep them as pets. When we are pregnant, we have large bumps where our flat stomachs used to be because we actually have something growing. Can you believe that? I don’t know? I think of it as sometimes as me looking down on a colony of ants and then I think: do they have an actor- turned- politician running for president and a mother struggling to control her three children in the gathering food field? No. No they probably do not. But it’s fun to think about.

Anywho, this morning—after waking up for the four or fifth time because the dog I am dog sitting either barked at me, was crying, wanted to leave the room etc.—I was looking at my brother who was asleep next to me, and I was thinking about how weird sleeping is and the fact that our body needs to sleep. I’ve thought about the bizarre-ness of sleeping before and always think of the zombies in “I Am Legend” where they’re in a circle and…just asleep. It’s weird that our body, after a long day, can just go into a coma and sleep for 8 or more hours—with no food, no water, no having to use the bathroom (for most of us haha), and no entertainment. We just sleep. Ok. This is officially a weird post. Sorry about that. Haha

And then, looking at my brother with his back to me, I thought about in just one short month I will be sharing my bed with Alex for the rest of my life! Whoa. We might need to make some adjustments. Juuuuuuust kidding. I love you Alex and we will make accomadations if you do in deed snore…I will give you a tranquilizer and plug your nose with a clothes pin. juuuuuuuust kidding for real this time. Haha I love you Alejandro! ;)

And speaking of sleeping...you should check out this "Sleeping Asians in the Library" blog. It's pretty darn funny.

Dinner for two, please!

Last night my mom made an incredible, delicious, and healthy side dish to our steak.
Look at it! Isn't it beautiful?

...and she says she isn't a good cook. Hmph. Don't believe her!

Here's how you make it (so easy!):
-zucchini
-squash
-onions
-mushrooms
-corn
-sundried tomatoes
-olive oil
-salt/pepper

Throw 'em all together and saute 'em up and voila!
You have a delicious and calorie-controlled snack, side, or even dinner!
(dinner for me...I'm watching my waistline so I can fit in that wedding dress haha ...but seriously.)

Favors

I really don't have anything to say because nothing interesting has happened as of late
...I'm already missing the days of walking through Paris with endless possibilities at my fingertips.

BUT!

we have started to work on some of the party favors for the guests of the wedding.
They are adorable!

Have you ever seen the Jones soda bottles that you can order with your own pictures on the label?
Well, we are recreating that idea with a colored photo: one of our fun engagement photos for the label.
We also ordered some cute red striped straws to attach with a thank you note.
Then they will be placed on the tables for the guests to admire...whether they like them or not haha.

I. Am. So. Excited.

Aren't you?

Do you like the blue or yellow label better?
the sodas will be in colors of pink, yellow, and a dark red. Perhaps light blue, too.
